Be Volunteer in our Yasuni Monkey Rescue Center Ecuador, in a different model of management of biodiversity on an Island in the middle of the Napo River, in the Yasuni National Park. Unique and with a very particular philosophy, they work with endangered primate species in free conditions.
The island includes the rehabilitation of nine species of endangered primates, with sufficient numbers of each species, they will be re-populating into their original habitats. This is why it’s very important to monitor them, understand their mobility, and help their diet until they are free. In the project, you will assist with monitoring techniques as well as results.
Since 2007, we have worked with those 9 primates species:
- LAGOTRIX POEPPIGII
- SAGUINUS GRAELLSI
- SAGUINUS TRIPARTITUS
- SAIMIRI SCIUREUS
- CEBUELLA PYGMAEA
- CEBUS ALBIFRONS
- PITECHIA MONACHUS
- DISCOLOR DE CALLICEBUS
- AOTUS VOCIFERANS
Study monkeys in the Yasuni National Park
Specifically, over the next five years, at least 70 monkeys, 10 from each species, will be brought and introduced to the island environment. This Monkey Island’s main project has two distinct, yet interconnected, aspects: one focused on endangered peoples and the other on endangered monkeys. The project is located on the Napo River on a scenic 115 hectares (284 acres) island in the eastern rainforest part of Ecuador, Orellana Province. They are also always in danger because of the Oil Companies. Volunteering in the Yasuni Monkey Rescue Center Ecuador
A great opportunity for veterinary students
Success will be measured by the number of babies which survive more than two years and the number of species that produce enough numbers (approximately 70) to be transferred to other protected sanctuaries elsewhere in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
Success will also depend on increasing eco-tourism and other businesses that help preserve habitats and support local businesses to generate sufficient income to support this project on a sustainable basis. Come and be Volunteer in our Yasuni Monkey Rescue Center Ecuador.
Environmental education to the locals
In the Amazon basin as in rural areas of Ecuador, less than 50% of children get access to education. Providing education was our main aim therefore from 2007 to 2011 our school provided education to 19 kids, nowadays, the school relocated to a little Kichwa community on the mainland. We still work closely with them to teach about the environment and conservation.
Our visits aimed to make people aware of wildlife threats where humans are the main factor in this cruel problem. We contribute to schools and Universities, offering a chance to change minds and be responsible to be on this planet.
